Venedikian,N.; Bonaventura,S. M.; Godeas,A. M..

Fusarium oxysporum and F. verticillioides associated with damping-off in Pinus spp. Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Maciel,Caciara Gonzatto; Walker,Clair; Santos,Ricardo Feliciano dos; Muniz,Marlove Fátima Brião; Brum,Daniele Lemos.
ABSTRACT Occurrence of Fusarium spp. is one of the problems, most limiting to growth of seedlings, in nurseries. This pathogen can be transmitted via seeds and causes damages to the seedlings during pre- and post-emergence stages. The present study aimed to identify Fusarium spp. at the species level based on morphological and molecular characteristics and to verify the pathogenicity of these isolates in seeds lots of Pinus elliottii and P. taeda. For this, we used two Fusarium isolates and five lots of Pinus spp. seeds. Morphological characterization was performed based on a key, specific to Fusarium spp. identification, whereas, molecular identification was carried out by amplification and sequencing of the regions from internal transcribed spacer (ITS)...

Leaf-cutting ant attack in initial pine plantations and growth of defoliated plants PAB
Nickele,Mariane Aparecida; Reis Filho,Wilson; Oliveira,Edilson Batista de; Iede,Edson Tadeu; Caldato,Nádia; Strapasson,Priscila.
The objective of this work was to evaluate the natural attack by Acromyrmex crassispinus in initial Pinus taeda plantations without control measures against ants, as well as the effect of defoliation in seedlings of P. taeda. Evaluations of the attack of leaf-cutting ants on P. taeda plantations were done monthly in the first six months, then 9 and 12 months after planting. The percentages of plants that were naturally attacked by ants were registered. The effect of defoliation was evaluated by artificial defoliation, simulating the natural patterns of attack by A. crassispinus on P. taeda seedlings. The natural attack of A. crassispinus was greater during the first months after planting, being more intense in the first 30 days. Artificial defoliation...

Modeling growth and yield of loblolly pinestands under intensive management PAB
Ferraz Filho,Antonio Carlos; Scolforo,José Roberto Soares; Oliveira,Antonio Donizette de; Mello,José Márcio de.
Abstract:The objective of this work was to develop and validate a prognosis system for volume yield and basal area of intensively managed loblolly pine (Pinus taeda) stands, using stand and diameter class models compatible in basal area estimates. The data used in the study were obtained from plantations located in northern Uruguay. For model validation without data loss, a three-phase validation scheme was applied: first, the equations were fitted without the validation database; then, model validation was carried out; and, finally, the database was regrouped to recalibrate the parameter values. After the validation and final parameterization of the models, a simulation of the first commercial thinning was carried out. The developed prognosis system was...

Modeling natural regeneration biomass of Pinus stand PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira
Cubas, Rafael; Costa, Emanuel Arnoni; Guimarães Finger, César Augusto; Maydanchen, Viviane Zaniz.
Reliable biomass data are very important in the evaluation of ecosystems, and help in understanding the contribution of forests in climate change. Variables that describe the size of the tree, like diameter and height are directly associated with biomass, which allows the use of regression models to estimate this element. Therefore, this study aimed to estimate by regression models, the biomass of different compartments of natural regeneration of trees of a Pinus taeda L. stand. The data were obtained through direct destructive method, using 100 randomly selected trees in the understory of a stand of Pinus taeda. We analyzed three arithmetical models, three logarithmic and two models developed by Stepwise process. Logarithmic equations developed by...

Pruning effects on growth ring thickness and wood density of Pinus taeda L. PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira
Pereira, José Carlos Duarte; Ahrens, Sérgio.
Effects of pruning on growth ring thickness and density were studied in young trees of Pinus taeda L. A reduction in growth ring thickness and an increase in density were found only in the first year after the most severe pruning, in which branches were removed up to 3,0 m height. Pruning had no effect on wood density in the following years. On the other hand, there was a significant increase in ring thickness after the initial reduction in the first year, suggesting the existence of a negative trophic balance in the lower branches. If properly applied, pruning can improve both growth process and wood quality of the main stem.

Tree Growth and Nutrient Dynamics in Pine Plantations in Southern Brazil Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Barros Filho,Nairam Felix de; Schumacher,Mauro Valdir; Neves,Júlio César Lima; Barros,Nairam Felix de; Valadares,Samuel Vasconcelos.
ABSTRACT For the development of nutrient budget models to recommend lime and fertilizers for agricultural and forestry crops, curves of plant growth and nutrient accumulation are required. Information about how nutrients are partitioned between the different plant organs is also necessary, but still scarce for pine in Brazil. This study evaluated the growth, biomass partitioning, and nutrient dynamics in pine forests in southern Brazil. To this end, we assessed unthinned 2, 4, 6, and 8-year-old stands of Pinus taeda L. Three plots of 20 × 30 m per stand were delimited, in which three trees of different classes of diameter at breast height (DBH) were chosen. These trees were measured, felled, and the weight of their fresh components (leaves, branches, bark,...

Viability and infectivity of an ectomycorrhizal inoculum produced in an airlift bioreactor and immobilized in calcium alginate BJM
Oliveira,Leyza Paloschi de; Rossi,Márcio José; Furigo Júnior,Agenor; Silva Filho,Germano Nunes; Oliveira,Vetúria Lopes de.
The viability and infectivity of an ectomycorrhizal inoculum (isolate UFSC-Rh90, Rhizopogon nigrescens), produced by submerged cultivation in an airlift bioreactor and immobilized in beads of calcium alginate gel, was studied. Inoculum remained 100% viable after 18 months in a 0.85% NaCl solution at 8 ± 1ºC. Mycelium grew from the beads after 48 h when they were placed on a solid culture medium at 25 ± 1ºC. Viability of pellets of non-immobilized mycelium stored under the same conditions decreased gradually after the third month of storage, reaching 0% by the 12th month. These pellets presented a gradual darkening, which was more intense in those located near the surface of the NaCl solution. In culture medium, these dark pellets showed no viability. Gel...
